Every spring a yellow-green film covers cars across the Triad. It looks harmless, but pollen is abrasive and slightly acidic, so rubbing it dry or letting it bake in the sun can dull the finish.
The safe way to remove it
Rinse thoroughly first so loose pollen runs off instead of being dragged across paint.
Use a pH-balanced car shampoo and a clean microfiber mitt, working top to bottom.
Rinse again, then dry with a clean microfiber towel.
What not to do
Do not wipe it dry with a towel or use a dry duster on a pollen-covered car, and avoid dish soap, which strips protection.
Keep it off longer
A paint protectant makes pollen release more easily and makes each wash faster. A regular exterior wash through April and May is easier on the paint than one big cleanup.
